Barry, if you applied to the VA without filing a claim, you ran into the earned income issue. My whole experience was similar to yours. If you actually file a benefits claim with the VA and you are approved, this income requirement goes away. If you have tinnitus or hearing loss from your Air Force service you are entitled to benefits. Good luck and if we can help let us know. LouB.
I don't know if this helps anyone going for hearing loss VA benefits, but I found this photo in my photos. It's the airmen barricks taken in 1969. It shows the screening on the barricks and the proximity to the runway, complete with F105 on takeoff. In 69 there were 17,000 sorties by 105's, plus however many EB66 flights, with no sound abatement.
