I sent a copy of my orders home so I would a copy for future reference. My dad said that I would not regret it and he was right. When I was discharged, the only medal that my 214 said I was authorized was the National Defense. I didn't notice it until my dad tried to get me a membership in the VFW. They said I couldn't join because my 214 did not show that I was overseas in a combat area. I wrote to the Air Force for almost two years before they acknowledged that I was there. I kept requesting copies of my 214 and received three copies each saying different things. One said I was discharged due to a behavior disorder, Passive/Aggressive. Another said I was discharged as an undesirable, none of which was on my original copy of my 214.
