Re: engine troop sucked into the engine of a b-66/j75 engine
NO, IT WAS AN ENGINE TROOP. I was one of the flightline troops that worked tail number 491, which was the plane that killed Tim McLean that night. I was one of the crewchiefs on EB-66 tail number 491. It was the plane that sucked up and killed Tim McLean on June 26th 1968. I was working 12 hour shifts and the guy who relieved me (can't remember his name but his face is still there) was sitting on the foot of his bunk the next morning, fully dressed, and in shock. I asked what was wrong and someone told me my plane had sucked up and killed an engine troop. I got to the flight line and had the unpleasant duty to assist the engine shop with the engine change. 491 crashed on landing about a month after that. It crashed on landing on July 19th (I'm pretty sure of the date) of 1968. I took pictures of it in the wrecking yard a day or so after it crashed. I still have pictures of 491 on the flight line (with me working it) before the crash and pictures of it after the crash. Send me your email and I'd be glad to send the pictures to you.
