Club Team with the most state champs/finalist

When looking at the high school state tournaments top wrestlers, I am curious as to how everyones respective club teams did. Mat Demon Wrestling club seems to have racked up numerous finalists/champions.

Boys 3A champions/finalist:

These are just finalist. Numerous Mat Demon Wrestlers also were state placers in the boys and girls divisons. A great showing by these Mat Demon Club high schoolers.

Please post how some of your club kids did at the state high school tournament.

This is a club coach/parent looking to get credit to a club.

Kids do the work. Let the kids have their moment.

Real coaches don’t need recognition over and over again….

Shenanigans,

Why does it matter who posted it? Why would a comment like that even be relevant. The kids are recognized by name, weight and class. Great for those kids! Also, kudos to the coaches who put in the countless hrs through the year to help mold these kids into the athletes and competitors they are. I would say the clubs the kids affiliate throughout the year do more to develop these wrestler than the high school they wrestle for 3 months out of the year. I think the kids, clubs and coaches all deserve credit. An athletes success is a direct product of the several ingredients including: the up bringing of the athlet (parental influence), coaching, practice partners, mentors, resources, and of intrinsic drive and athletic potential. Naturally gifted athletes do not always achieve their full potential without the right guidance, influence and resources. So, I would say it is perfectly accetable to recognize clubs/clubs kids and give them accolades for their hard work.

Funny how this topic comes up every time this year. Clubs are good in the off season. Clubs cause issues during the high school season.

Some clubs want all the credit. Some people in clubs want the credit even more.

Coaches just want the kids to reach their
Potential on and off the mat and hopefully enjoy the experience enough to give back to it.

At the end of the day, kids are paying club coaches… in some cases a lot of money. I know there are high school coaches who give their time majority of the year and the stipend goes directly into the program.

This idea that clubs do more to develop wrestlers than the coach they see everyday in the halls at school is preposterous. These are young men and women, not just wrestlers.

Some coaches are teachers or work at the school. However, I don’t think most high school coaches are teachers or regular school employees. Most wrestlers don’t see their high school wrestling coaches in the hallway everyday.

Most club kids are in the room practicing year round. They interact and are influenced by their club coaches hours a week, 12 months throughout the year.

I’m not saying high school coaches aren’t important or aren’t influential. However, many of these wrestlers are more of a product of their clubs, not the high school program they spend 3 months of the year with.

There are kids that only wrestle 3 months a year (high school season) and that experience with their high school program is critical. However, the reality of the sport is that the top tier kids are typically club kids. It’s not an insult to high school coaches, it’s just the reality you have to acknowledge.

HS participants and coaches represent a school & a community while trying to qualify for and participate in post season. The majority of HS coaches are in the school system & have a bigger overall role in the development of student-athletes.

90% of HS athletes will not compete competitively after graduation. They will however treasure the memories of what happened during their HS career forever.

HS coaches develop and mold all kids, both academically & athletically, not just the elite kids.

Wrestling for your High School, teammates & community is just a different dynamic than wrestling for Reno world titles. It's not an insult to club coaches, it's just a reality you have to acknowledge.

And they do it all for about .50 cents an hour...

You Think Club Coaches Get Paid.....

While love our high school coaches, it is important to recognize the significant dedication of our club coaches. They invest countless hours preparing our athletes for their opportunities at the DOME without compensation. Their commitment is a genuine passion for the sport and a deep care for the development of the young athletes.

If clubs are charging, someone is getting paid. Not that there is a problem with that, but money is changing hands. $50 camps with 100 kids are making $5000 a weekend. That all isn't going to hamburgers. With that, many club coaches and "dads" put in time and think they are good wrestling coaches. In reality, many club kids need to get a lot fixed when entering high school. They have the basics and some mat time, but many come with bad habits that are never corrected because of the lack of one on one coaching.

Of course they have to charge something. Who pays the rent at the facility? Who pays the electric bill? The Wrestling Fairy? It's definitely no free to run a club!! Name one club coach that gets paid a Salary for Coaching. I will wait...

Well, I'm not gonna disagree with the basic premise of your statements. Your passion is admirable. Many HS coaches are great mentors, technically sound and give an enormous amount to their programs.

However, there is no way you can unilaterally declare that all HS coaches fit in that category.

When you take a look at the spectrum of coaches across all classifications you will find everything from solid ex-college wrestlers to former HS wrestlers who didn't place at state. There are limitless examples of just how wide the spectrum is. Some never wrestled and don't know the first thing about developing a wrestler, but they run a program nonetheless and do a decent job.

I stand by my original post that feeder clubs make or break a Top 5 HS program. Top 5 being what kind of placement they get at the classic.

A good HS coach builds from what the clubs do and what they can provide. The club program and the HS program co-exist and complement one another.

It's not a US vs Them thing when it works. And there's nothing wrong with Clubs getting some recognition in a discussion forum.

Please enlighten me on how wrestling club during High School causes issues? Do you think that without club wrestling these kids would be where they are if the only wrestle 3 month out of the year and only partner with kids in their HS ROOM?

You win, thank God for you club coaches or State would have been terrible!!

Kids have always wrestled jr. wrestling, very few wrestle only 3 months a year unless they are a multi sport athlete.

The point being only recently have club coaches been of Sanderson & Brands quality & it really shows with the amount of college AA's we have now compared to prior years.

Owen - U High
Barnes - Lake Stevens
Freund - Kelso
Mclean- Mead
Feist - Tahoma
& to many more to mention have all had "feeder programs" but reality is when these kids entered HS they matured & improved through the teaching & structure of a great HS program.

Junior programs are & will always be an integral part of developing athletes in any sport but will never replace or supersede a quality HS program.

In a day & age where any 3rd cousin twice removed can get a floor pass to state & consider themselves a coach it has certainly muddied the waters, however even the best "club" coaches will never replace a good HS program & the amount of attention they require is tiring.

Well one issue I have seen is that kids go to their club practice after their team practice. This is too much 'practice' for a high school kid. Their bodies need to recover and they need to do home work so that they can compete. Also club Dad's thinking they are the coach during school matches. Screaming from the front row like if they weren't there the kid has no chance. With that, I do think kids that really want to be good should spend as much time on a mat as possible.

Team Aggression produced 2 4x State Champs this past weekend as well as had a couple match ups with 2 teammates facing each other. Also, check your names, several of these haven't trained at Mat Demon in years. The club just likes to take credit as that's all that is important to their coach.

I don't think its their Coach seeking the credit. I think its all the want to be Dad's that think they are great coaches as well.

There is a big difference between club and high school. If all these club coaches were so great, they would have top high school teams year in and year out.

With that, club wrestling is important and is a piece of the puzzle. I just have done this a long time and know that there is a big difference between the two and you are comparing apples to oranges saying they are the only reason these kids do well.

I garauntee you every kid on that list wrestles at mat demon. Including Madison Watts as mentioned in previous comment. Enlighten me on who you believe does not wrestle at mat demon? You obviously have not been to this club. Its easy to hate on a club because their doing well without actually experiencing the club for yourself. I garauntee those coaches care about their kids, pour countless hours into the athletes of all ages and skill level and mold them into solid athletes and human beings. Hate all you want. Thats the nature of things. People like to try to tear down someone or an organization when they are doing well.

Your right she did officially join a week ago. Much of her success is likely not due to Mat Demon wrestling club. However, I can see her improving substantially with the group of nationally ranked girls in the Mat Demon room.

A lot of good kids go to Mat Demon and get better. Some kids start there and are good. Some goods go there and never get better, but their money is just as good as anyone else’s so they take it…

One poster says club coaches do more than high school coaches. That’s wrong.

I see the same high school coaches at dual camps all summer long with their high school wrestlers for free, and some even spending money for them to go. So, this idea that most high school coaches only coach three months a year is insane.

There will be at least 80 schools who’s coach goes all summer, another 70 schools who’s coaches are out there during freestyle, some without charging a cent, those are the coaches that make the biggest impact.
