Peugeot 1.6 HDi 9HZ 2004 - EGR issue #

Hi i have already got a post on diesel management forum but its got a bit long winded for anyone to read so this post is to ask a question so i can listen to your replys/advice and opinions to decide on my next steps.

If you perform an EGR remap/delete should you block off the EGR pipe to stop exhaust gas reaching the inlet??
If not can anyone explain how you can be sure the faulty EGR valve wont stick open and cause running issues??

In my humble opinion, the EGR pipework should be remove-able if it's been deleted. So, yes blanking it should be acceptable.

If you think about it, if the EGR is blanked, it would be the same as if the EGR were constantly closed or not operated by the ECU
.
If the ECU is looking for the MAF/MAP to alter during EGR operation (of which the software has supposedly been removed), then that software has not been modified successfully/properly. As it's still trying to confirm EGR operation by looking at it's effect on the relevant sensor.

This is just what i thought however i have a so called" peugeot top tech who i believe performed the egr delete " telling me otherwise.

I have now removed the blanking plate and it runs like sh** . Heavy smelly smoke and irregular revs at idle and late power under throttle. Also power fluttering while driving/cruising along.

If anyone disagrees with me and Tony and i please let me know. I feel that saying "you can shear a sheep many times but you will only fleece it one time"

I feel a bit better knowing that i am most likely thinking logical.

Why would you even need to blank it off full atop. If its been reprogrammed out properly then it shouldn't even be commanded to operate surely.

Not that I have any experience in this but if you have reflashed some vauxhalls to disable egr operation you must still leave it electrically connected as it logs an open circuit code iirc.

The software could have been mapped out but if the valve is not sealed it can still cause a running fault.

If the system is monitored by the AMM the re-map may just alter the "mapped figure" in the look-up table that sets the EGR operation.

If the feedback is via a linear sensor fitted as part of the valve it must remain fitted.

Different versions of the EURO regs (Euro3, 4 or 5) will also play a part in how the system is monitored.

Agreed Mark, however fitting a blanking plate is the equivalent of mapping out the egr with it closed. So it shouldn't set a low flow fault code. Which is one of his poor mapping issues.

We don't fit blanking plates when we do egr removal,as long as the valve closes ok, if it can't mechanically close then it will need a blanking plate.
Everything is left in place and connected.

I agree with you, but I thought that one of the issues was the fact that when he removes the blanking plate it runs like a pile of shite, which may be down to the valve not sealing, as Chris refers to above.

It could be that I'm miss reading the post

Hi thanks for all your replys,
The reason for this post is i had egr running issues, I had a choice of replacing egr valve or getting it re mapped by the company who have done re mapping for us before. I got in touch with them and they said they will sort the egr issue and also re map dpf too at the same time (provided i removed the dpf from the exhaust myself) £180.
I done so and also kept blank in egr as i had removed, cleaned and replaced it already and shortly after it it had played up again(so fitted a blank which it would recognise over 30-40 miles)

3 days 30 miles after remap and lihgt came on again with egr codes, no flow detected.

I sent it back for them to sort and they told me it was because of the blanking plate ???? Why??
they said remove it and it will be fine??

Just a quick update, I took blanking plate out and it surges at idle,smell bad and surges as you are driving with smoke at times. He tell me now he thinks its my airflow meter at fault?

Another update,, I stopped last night , lots of smoke no revs/power and engine would die. Blocked of egr and its fine again but i know i will get eml and limp again soon so its gonna be a heated discussion monday morning i am afraid, i now have proof they are feeding me cra* .

Will let you know outcome.
