If the system is monitored by the AMM the re-map may just alter the "mapped figure" in the look-up table that sets the EGR operation.
If the feedback is via a linear sensor fitted as part of the valve it must remain fitted.
Different versions of the EURO regs (Euro3, 4 or 5) will also play a part in how the system is monitored.
