Renault Clio II 1.4 2003 Type BB0P - Code C1621 (DF028) loss of engine speed #

( Optional ) Engine Code or CC: 1390

Has anybody by any chance got VISU for a Clio MK2 ( MY2003) Vin No VF1BB0PEG30045368.
Fab No F622189

I have the said vehicle in my workshop with a fault code in the electric steering C1621 (DF028) which refers to a loss of engine speed.

Pin 19 on plug A is where the signal should be coming into (no signal present at time of test) but I am struggling to find the correct pin on either the engine ECU or perhaps it comes from the instrument cluster?

Dialogys appears to be vauge.

EPAS control unit pin 19 to Engine ECU pin 41

goes through two connections

R67 FRONT OF ENGINE/ENGINE CONNECTION (pin 7)

R107 DASHBOARD/FRONT OF ENGINE CONNECTION (pin

Suspect corroded or broken wire from the engine ECU , follow the loom back to the big white connector under the engine bay Relay board (R67 / pin 7)

Thanks Darren,

Traced wire back to engine ECU and found that ECU is not switching signal wire to ground.

Output feed is from PAS ECU to the engine ECU. If I "switch" the output feed from the PAS, I can read an Rpm speed in the PAS, so it looks like a new engine ECU.

PS. I wonder if the Sirus 34 is available in free running mode? or I need a "device" that can switch the signal to ground.

Are you after something to give a signal instead of fitting an ecu?

I don't know if this will work. The vaux corsa without abs uses a relay whitch converts a speed sensor signal to a square wave.

If your Renault has a crank sensor the same as a corsa abs sensor you could wire it to your PAS.

This is only a theory and may have a effect on the running of the engine so you would probably be better repairing the car correctly

Since you asked about a device i thought i would mention it, Food for thought.

That's the sort of thing I'm thinking of (I know its no excuse but the vehicle is worth about threepence)

My only issue is the fact that on this vehicle the signal feed comes out of the PAS ECU and is switched to ground via the engine ECU.

So I'm looking for the possibility of finding/designing (soldering together) something that will carry out the switching function rather than generate a signal.

Was i over complecating the signal.

If it just need switching to ground will a normal relay work. I may need some protection in the circuit.

I was just guesing it had the rpm in the PAS so it had a varible signal in the ecu. You could do with a known good signal.

No maybe not.

It needs switching at a set frequency.

I have a good signal, its about 10 volts outputted from the PAS ECU and the engine ECU turns it into a square wave signal with a frequency that changes with engine Rpm.

If the relay switches an external feed then it sounds good however if it outputs its own square wave signal then I don't think it will work.

Corsa c without abs speedo gets signal of 1 n/s/f wheel speed sensor[relay gives switched earth to engine ecu and power steering module]

I Think it might do depending on quite a few things matching up.

The corsa engine ecu gives a 12v output and the 5 pin relay [thingy] earths it out like a hall sensor.

2 pins to wheel sensor on n/s/f[inductive] or crank sensor in your case.

1 pin 12v from engine ecu switched [or in your case PAS ]

1 pin 12v 1 pin earth.

The faster you drive the frequency changes

If you wired one up it might think the engine is doing 6000rpm and we don't know if the crank sensor could power up the ecu for smooth running and a relay [thingy]
