Ok, you can draw breath now. ( thanks Mike F for the last post).. As I say It Lives, but Im almost too ashamed to tell you what it was.. and I have considered lying - but I wont Right mon ami, decided to excersise the little grey cells (!) and as I mentioned before, go back to basics. Went to the vehicle, decided as I had nothing hapening at the spi unit, unplug the 4 way multiplug, and start checking wire by wire back through - reasoning being, I had to have 'missed' something. Unplugged the connector, peeled back the rubber cover on the plug ( to get the multimeter in ) - there it was --- 3 out of 4 wires broken! I have to say, I stood looking at it for what seemed like 3 days, and thought -- Have I just done that!? Anyway, stuck the wires back in ( testing purposes ) turned the key - and you guessed the rest. Thinking about it now , the jigsaw comes together.. the first problem that I sorted straight away was the "excessivly" split spi mounting rubber gasket - now I reckon that as it was almost split in two, the wires had been tugging for a while , getting progressivly worse. When the guy went to start it outside the shops - that was the last tug.. the vibration of the engine on the starter finished them off. So there you have it. Who's laughing ? Who's looking at this aghast? Still.... There's a moral in here somehwere! Thank you all for all your help... its not all for nothing as it all goes down in the litle black book/grey cells and is there for future use.. and hopefully will save someone else someday. I know its the first thing I will check in future! Please archive this quickly so I dont keep seeing it !! Mike
