hi all on the 311cdi model or om611 if you prefer
i was told at a merc recent merc course on this engine to fit the filter dry and crank engine for 60secs max or until it starts. this method is ok if your battery is ok how i do it is fit filter undo bleed screw on top then use a vac pump such as a mityvac until you see fuel in container i have never had any problems doing this way and the guy at mercs said this was a better idea?
we have had a few customers that have filled cdi engines with petrol vehicle stops we go out drain out petrol fit new filter and restart no probs so far
however i always cut open fuel filter and check for metal shards this is a good sign that the high pressure pump is u/s
mercedes reccomend a complete engine change and fuel tank and lines etc this is cheaper than replacing the seperates components apparently?
    thanks john
