    Hi Paul.

A colleague of mine was telling stories of horrors involving HDi injectors being held open by dirt ingress into the injectors. The theory is that if the injector doesn't close then the immense fuel pressure floods the cylinder causing almost immediate hydraulic lock and wrecking the engine.

I was going to raise this question on UKAT some time ago but my reasoning was that the injectors would contain a basket filter of sufficient size to prevent this from happening.

Or am I far to trusting in the manufacturer's ?

I am wary when servicing HDi fuel filters now and always clean the unions etc.

I have never heard of any actual problems but await any further replies with interest, as I'm sure you do.

    Regards,

    Steve
