A couple of years ago I had a 98 BMW 750iL in for a similar thing but it would occur very very slightly without braking between 56 and 60 mph but would vibrate the whole car much worse under light braking. It had this extended BMW warranty so it had been in loads of times to the dealers and had new discs and pads three times and eventually all the suspension bushes and arms changed on the front end and some very expensive looking electronic dampers. Each time something was fitted it would seem to improve then come back a few weeks later. I eventually traced the problem to bad tyres that it seemed were distorting from the car standing for a few days at a time. I checked them on the balancer and found them very slightly out, rebalance them and check in a couple of weeks time and I found them out again. I had noticed each time BMW carried out any work they also balanced the wheels. The customer went for 4 new tyres and they cured it. Later found on an american BMW website that it's quite common on larger BMWs. On my own e34 535 I had I would get a violent shudder through the steering wheel if I dabbed the brake pedal to scrub of a bit of speed on the motorway and that turned out to be knackered front shocks even though it didn't feel particularly bouncy when driving. New springs and dampers all round sorted that one. Probably nothing what so ever to do with your problem but I thought I'd mention them.
