Dear Veterans and Widows,

I would like to extend a big hug and a big Thank You to Dick Williams, the Moderator/Administrator who developed this message board.. and also all of the Veterans who came to the aid of my Daddy and Mama when we filed for a Takhli Thailand claim..

I received phone calls, pictures and love and support from many a Veteran... This site enabled me to meet all of you.. and I will be forever thankful... and will always be here to help any Veteran or Widow that needs any help i can give you...

You should all know that Kerry Baker has won another Takhli Thailand claim. This claim was for a claim that I fought for for over 3 years... It was my own Daddy and Mama's case. After meeting Kerry.. he wrapped things up and the claim has now been awarded in less than a year. He called me yesterday on his day off to tell me the good news...
This is really good news for more and more of you to be awarded...

This means that more and more cases are being awarded and i announce this to those who feel defeated and that there is no use in filing..

It is not all that easy for me to tell those of you who have been denied and are still waiting.. there is just as much of my heart dedicated to each and every one of you too.. I will be happy when all the Thailand Veterans and their families are treated equal to our boots on ground in Vietnam Veterans.

File for your benefits and keep on moving forward no matter what they tell you.. You are entitled to these benefits ....

Please let me know if you need maps or pictures of the base... I will be happy to help anyone...

Congratulations Susie, Am proud that you and your Mother hung in there. Yes, I believe those of us assigned to Takhli (no matter where we worked) were very likely exposed and are due the accompanying benefits.

I was just denied claim for Parkinsons due to exposure to herbicides because "the required service in Vietnam is not shown (??), nor is there evidence of exposure to herbicides during military service. My VA Advocate told me to get statements of others who were at Tahkli and any photos, map of base, etc. I can get. Thank you for your offer to help. Larry.

thank you very much,i did stay at the thai base commanders house off base and he had a access to the base across the road from his compound,they had a white chimp.i did meet someone who was there in the sixties who said he defoliated the entire base back then.

Takhli Agent Orange

I served at Takhli in 1970 -71,'' and was involved in the removal of what I believe were 55 gallon drums of agent orange as well as the destruction and relocation of hazardous chemicals and acids.

Could you please send me any information you have concerning the bases use and storage of AO and any maps you might have.

I was stationed at Takhli 1n 1972 73, and we live in an area full grown of tall grass and they spray it with chemical to clear the area. Our hootch is near the base perimeter and it was very primitive since we just open the base when the 366ffw from Da Nang moved there. I worked as the in charged of Supply Warehouse where we stored all equipment, drums of different chemicals. Latter in life I contracted cancer of the prostate and I claimed to the va, and i was surprised that the Va said my record did not even have takhli in it. I am fighting it and I am producing all necessary documents saying I was there.

Being a Rapcon controller we got to and from our radar unit by using a truck for crew swaps. We drove off base and came thru a smaller gate on the opposite side of the base boundry. We had security patrols/dogs around but during the time of "Before the rice is tall Takhli will fall!" We had our M-16's and half track patrols. Does anyone have a picture,map or airport diagram that displays the area east of the runway?

Susie, thank you for your responce. I need the 1969 map. Any aerial photos of the eastern side of the base preimenter where our mobile radar unit was located would be most helpful. Unit looked a litle like three mobile homes.

Greg, how far was your site from the Tropo communications site at the Northeast end of the runway. Our site was close to the taxi strip on bomb dump road. I seemed to recall a time when a lot of vegetation disappeared around the area but never questioned it.

I was at Takhli from Mar 1968 until March of 1969. I was in the 41st TEWS working in the B-66 Phaxe inspection on the 41st and 42nd TEWS aircraft. every major phase required a high power engine run. At first we pulled the acft away from the clam shell blast fence on the B66 parking ramp. We did that until we managed to roll the blast fence over which in turn blew a Thai guard shack over with the guard inside.
After that we took our aircraft to the engine High power area next to the perimeter of the base.
I would love to get my hands on any maps you have of the runway and engine run up pads. I am diabetic and have has a triple heart bypass plus they had had to place 5 stents in my arteries 5 months after my bypasss .

Susie : Got the maps. Thanks. At this stage I guess my go forward plan will be to harass my congressman until the VA decides if you were exposed to agent orange it doesn't matter where you were standing. Airborne pathogens know no boundaries.

I too was there from 69-70 355th Security Police didn't know at the time what that stuff was but yes it was there and we were exposed.Ken

Susie, congratulations on your successful award! I am new to this board, and the reason I am writing is because my uncle was at Takhli as one of the AF fighter pilots and he passed away on Friday from Prostate Cancer. I learned this morning that he had gone to his congressman to request assistance with his denied claim of Agent Orange. His son (my cousin) and I are intending to pick up the torch. He was at Takhli in 67-68 timeframe (estimate) and then transferred to Korat. He told my cousin about the herbicide spraying and his unit was berthed about 50 feet from the perimeter. I would appreciate any documentation around that timeframe (and once I see his DD214 and other documents, perhaps a more precise time frame). My email is glhathaway@gmail.com. Gail

Francis, take a deep breath, we and other are well aware how the VA approves claims. Bottom line is you must show proof you work on or near the perimeter per the standards set in the VA CP Bulletin dated May 2010. Suzie has done a great job on helping Tahkli vets with all the info she has gathered thru the years. While you can try to get your congressman to harass the VA , it ain't going to work. Ask every vet on this site and they will tell you, only proof working on the perimeter is the only way your going to get approved. The VA has studied Herbicides for years and thats why they only allow Thai vets on the perimeter is because they have already studied how far herbicides travel. Anyway, forget the congressman, do your homework, read the Veterans Appeals Citition website and you will learn dhow the VA really works. Sorry if I offended you. good luck, Suzie will back me on whats involved.

Steve : Message received. As you are probably all ready aware this whole agent orange thing is very frustrating. To start with I had boots on the ground in Viet Nam twice in 1968. Once when we landed at Da Nang and stayed overnite on my way to Thailand. The 2nd time was when one of the 41st TEWS B-66 aircraft went down broken at Tan SA Nuit with engine problems. Myself and 2 engine man were sent TDY to replace the bad engine. Unfortunatey I cant prove it since no TDY orders are showing in my record. I have tried every angle I can thjink of trying to prove it (pay records for tax free for the times I was there). The VA wont accept any of my attempts. I am now grasping for the agent orange useage in Thailand. Thanks for the valuable input . I will attempt to prove my case with location of the B66 engine trim pad shown on the base map clearly showing it next to the perimeter of the base. I spent many long hours working there.

Francis, sounds like a good way to go. I was approved as I had A photo of my work shop on the perimeter. I Believe Susie can help you with some maps or photos she has located. Be sure to file for herbicide exposure as the VA CP May 2010 Bulletin clearly states Tactical Herbicides were used on the Perimeter of Thai bases. Also send a copy of the bulletin to the VA, as there are still alot of va rating idots who don't know about there own bulletin. Other wise they will request from the JSRRC info on herbicide use at Tahkli which can take months if not years. good luck Steve

My claim was denied June 2014...and do not want to give up trying. Susie if you can send me maps and photos of what you have that may be helpful. I was at Takhli AFB 72-73, TDY, POL fuel specialist. 5 months 15 days. DD214 only shows foreign service. It doesn't specify where. Like others that were TDY...I have to prove I was there?? Meeting tomorrow with a guy who will help with my appeal. Thanks

I worked in a comm. van. (teletype opr.)I have given proof to the va that I did other things there. such as laying wire in the peremiter. they turned me down for the 3rd time. this time stating there was no proff that herbicides were used there. I have 2 cancers lung,pr0strate. can anyone please help me proff that a o was used there. 1963 1964. ty

I am helping my husband search for info from the Tahkli base to prepare for Agent Orange exposure compensation. He was there 1967-68 and worked at the bomb dump site which was located on the perimeter of the base. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer several years ago and at that time the VA did not recognize the Thailand veterans. Because of the recent VA recognition of possible exposure at these bases he would like to reapply. Any info would be appreciated. Thank you.

I have pics of the maps on here but none of them are very clear or show where the razor wire was next to out hootches. I have been denined so many times it ant funny I am now waiting for my hearing date, I have not been able to find anyone who knows me nor do I remember any names except one James Pennington. I was with the 474th from Nellis AFB 72-73. I lived next to the razor wire. I was an SP augmentee which there are no records and I worked in MMS orderly rom across from the flight line. I been having such a hard time find the proof I need or pictures of the barrels or AO. Any help I can get would be grateful. I been sitting here going thru the site trying to print off anything that may help me. But could not find enough info. But I am trying. The maps just are not clear and my memory is shot. I do remember be close to the NCO Club and walking around all the snakes. Thanks in advance, djmpi@aol.com

Susie, I have an appeal in for herbicide exposure at Takhli. I worked in ecm flight line jan 69 to jan 70. Please send a 69 map of the base and any photos you have that might help my case. I lived in the 500 hootch area for the first 7 mos. I had to work on eb 66 a/c on the flight line and the trim and staging areas.Thanks, jls0745@comcast.net

I was stationed at Takhli from July 1969 - July 1970. I worked at the base post office: OL1603, 355 Combat Support Group. I, too, filed a claim for Diebetes, Neropathy, and anything else associated with diebetes. Was eventually awarded 90 percent, but when I pushed for 100 %, the VA claimed I was doing better and dropped me to 80 percent.

Ed I was in supply in may -july 1972 but the VA will not accept my classified orders When Senator Ernst made an inquiry they would only tell her i served in a combat zone. I was the delivery driver and helped move most of those barrels.

I was in takhli (PCS) in 1972. To get there one need to fly from Travis AFB to Clark AB in the philippines and stay there for a day or two to catch a C130 going to viet-nam. In Danang we have to get out of the airplane so it can be unloaded the supplies it was hauling and also the aircraft can be refuel. when all those things are done,we went aboard the C130 and fly to Dong Muang AB Thailand, from there we took a bus to take us to Takhi AB. When my time of Going home I also take a C130 going to viet-nam stay there for 2-4 hours and fly to Clark AB in the Philippines and catch a freedom bird there going to Travis AFB. It is unbelievable that the VA now saying to me that I never set foot in Viet-Nam. Also it is ironic to me the VA was telling me that I did not served in Thailand even though it was on my Military Personal record. I am continuing fighting the VA and I have a Judge VA board hearing on the 6 November 2019 at Bay Pines Florida.

I agree this is a terrible way to treat us. They told me the same thing first time.... No proof you served in Thailand. It was in my military records which they were supposed to verify. At least I thought they were.

How long did it take you to get a hearing before the VA Administrative Judge? I finally got tired of sending additional information and them ignoring 2/3 of what I sent so I asked for a hearing a few months ago.

I finally get a hearing before a judge later this month. I’ve been dealt with the va for my disability AO exposure ischemic heart disease for 7+years. I’ve been waiting on the hearing since 2016!

All, the only proff i had that i served in Takhli and Korat was my Dental records had date and base stamped confiming my time there.
