>>> LEAVE MY WOMAN ALONE <<<
I've been listening to The Kingston Trio's "String Along" album, which seems like a hundred years ago when I brought that record home. (Summer/ 1960)
Not only do I consider "String Along to be one of the best Kingston Trio albums out there, but I don't believe there's one bad song on there !!!
The one song that really did strike me when I first heard it was "Leave My Woman Alone".
No question, Dave Guard owned this song...and our beloved Kingstons really sounded as if they enjoyed themselves.
I thought for sure "acknowledged leader" Dave Guard must've written this song....but he didn't.
In fact, "Leave My Woman Alone" was written by Ray Charles some time in 1956.
Dave Guard and The Kingston Trio recorded this song four years later.
If you listen carefully to the Trio's version....
there's some laughter in the background after Dave Guard says "Give it to me" and Bob Shane responds with "Eh?"
AND...AND...AND...
Dave sings: "Well, I don't believe in trouble..."
Bob responds with: "Uh-huh"
Dave sings: "So I don't want to start a fight..."
Bob responds with: "Oh No"
Dave sings: "So if you take heed and stay away from my little girl, well, everything will be all right."
=> the song closes with a big >>> "YAH" <<< (Dave Guard)
{scared the heck out of me when I first heard it}
