I won't comment on "The Marvinettes".
They bought "The Kingston Trio" name from Bob Shane,
and it was a business decision made by Bob for health and financial reasons.
Personally, as far as I'm concerned....
THE KINGSTON TRIO were the "four" guys who recorded for Capitol Records:
BOB SHANE (1934-2020)
NICK REYNOLDS (1933-2008)
DAVE GUARD (1934-1991)
JOHN STEWART (1939-2008)
In my opinion, Bob Shane's hiring of George Grove was a terrific decision.
I have always liked George. Extremely skilled musician and a very nice guy.
I also felt that George Grove + Bill Zorn + Rick Dougherty, represented THE KINGSTON TRIO
with tremendous musical ability and integrity. These 3 talented gentlemen did our "Trio" proud !!!
For whatever reason, Craig, I find myself listening to BOB SHANE singing "It Was A Very Good Year" ----
from the KT's "Goin' Places" album. (rel: summer of 1961)
Maybe it had to do with the video Col. Larry Crawford recently sent me of Bob's funeral.
(the Urn + cremation + ashes scattered in Hawaiian waters)
I'm having a tough time dealing with the loss of BOB SHANE ----
and it kinda strikes me that our world has not been the same since !!!
Brucester
Bruceter, any comments about the current edition of the Kingston Trio? Often referred to here as the 'Marvinettes'.
