First off, someone said that CDM had the most losses in school history, but that’s because he’s the longest tenured coach in LB history. He also has to most WINS in LB history lets not forget about that. Thats all because of consistent winning. During conference, with an exception of 2019-2021, he always had an above .500 record. For a big west team, that’s not bad. If you look at most of the league, it’s very up and down. There aren’t many consistent teams in the league. Of course you get the programs like UC Irvine where they are always talented, but for how good they are they aren’t as dominant in the Big West Tournament.
Another thing to mention is strength of schedule for Monson’s losses. For years he was playing big time teams to get the team as ready as possible for league. Thats how you promote a program!!! After this season, I’m hoping we keep this tradition alive. Those USC, Michigan, and DePaul wins were very satisfying as a fan.
I grew up in Long Beach area schools, and he would have his team at my middle school helping out the special needs program during their PE period once a year. I don’t remember seeing anything on social media about it. There’s no way that that’s not the only school they did something like that for. I also have a buddy that works on campus and he said that players would help give tours of the pyramid for different schools visiting the campus.
When we talk about mistreatment of CDM, it was definitely there. There aren’t many reports of it, but there has to of been some kind of mistreatment based on the situation. Now I know that’s an assumption, but that’s just how the world works.
Another part that was unfortunate about the whole situation with his firing was that he had almost the whole team coming back this year. When someone like Jadon Jones, a hometown kid, leaves the university closest to him where he was also the crowd favorite, there has to be some kind of mistreatment involved. We had a championship winning team returning to the beach and all the AD had to do was be patient.
When it comes to NIL, Long Beach State will never get any because why would someone donate big money for a school like that when USC, UCLA, SDSU, and other schools are right around the corner. The university has never put money into sports besides the pyramid, which was very cheaply built given that it’s ####ing massive and only holds 4500 people. I bet they barely have enough money to get through a season.
Sorry that was a lot but those are my thoughts on everything Previous Message
horrible?
I mean what did you expect? it's a total rebuild.
I didn't expect much.
the last comparable situation was CDM's first year and we know how that went.
agree though the offense is a major problem.
agree this team has the potential to have a very bad won loss record
on the other hand, 4 games, we've played 2 very good teams, and 2 teams we could have beat. so it's not like it can't compete well with most (maybe not Irvine) Big West teams.

CDM is gone! Why pound a dead horse. Everyone is entilted to their opinion about his tenue, but I am concerned about this year and I AM NOT HAPPY with what I have seen so far. Either we have subpar athletes or the scheme is wrong. We will be destroyed in most every game this year. I expected the change would be good, but so far the results have been horrible! My money, time, fan energy has gone into this program and the results seem to be keep getting worse. Previous Message
Why was it handled horribly? Were we supposed to extend his contract after 2 weeks of peak performance while forgetting about the 16 or so years of nothing? I will concede one mistake Smitheran made - was in letting CDM continuing coaching the team after the firing. CDM should have been relieved of duties mid-season to allow Smitheran more time to search for a new coach. Previous Message
CDM owns a lot of real estate in your brains if you guys are still talking about him this much. How the situation was handled was horrible and if you can’t accept that, you are mistaken! Previous Message
you are right in one aspect, in some ways this looks like an early season CDM coached team, lol
last year with all that experience, they went up to Portland and sucked, confused, figuring things out
"players disrespected last year"? how? cause no one was showing up cause of inconsistent play mostly. cause their coach got fired for going 10-10 and getting punked at home vs. Irvine, SB, Davis, etc.....
can you please be specific what you mean by disrespect?
the AD was supposed to be nice, and wait another week, for what?
say what you want about the timing of the firing, the fact is it lit a fire under some butts that apparently the coaching staff had been unable to do most of the year Previous Message
I totally agree with you Fred. I really feel Monson was not treated well last year. Neither was his staff and the players were also disrespected.
The prior AD had given him a contract extension.
I am very concerned about the play of this yeas team. Most communication by the head coach with players is with Askew. This is a team sport. Askew cannot be expected to develop well as a player with this load being placed on him.
Most of the other team members appear to be trying to figure out what they are supposed to do. We will see what happens going forward.
