Apel is a multi-degree Beach alum, so at least better (one would think) decision making in the hands of those vested in the Beach past vs. Jane's UCSB cronies. You know, that University that Jane came from that was and is much less diverse than the Beach.

Jane in another new wrinkle and another decision she 'makes up' will have the AD reporting to a VP and CFO
so this decision is not hiring an AD, it's basically now two levels of AD, so practically your new AD is....Scott Apel, whoever the heck that is and whatever the heck is background is in managing sports and generating donor based revenue and etc.!
