What’s with Sunnyside?

It’s shocking to see Sunnyside not be competitive. This is not good. Something needs to change. It’s one thing to have an off year, but this looks like a mess at this tournament.

Probably about the boys team. They have two dual losses and didn't do very well at the Prosser tournament

Doesn’t happen to Toppenish or even Moses Lake! They have down years but not down and out years. It will take years for Sunnyside to recover.

You must not know anything about wrestling history. ML was bad for the last several years and is just starting to build back up. And yes, they lost to Ike this year.
Toppenish has also been good recently, but as early as 15 years ago, they were not great. I'm sure a quick look at Steve Davis' sight would confirm this.

It will be close. Sunnyside probably the better team, but they are banged up pretty bad. They got handled by Eastmont so if it goes the way it has been, ML will win.

Sunnyside lost one maybe two of their studs to injury. They still wouldn't have been in contention. It is just a different program now. That is all. Nothing more to see.

They had two or 3 boys that just quit cause if the coaching i know messiah valdez is one of them. So something is going on

And here we go....I don't know how you call someone soft if you look up and the program looks like it's being destroyed. I would try to figure out why rather than blame kids that are top caliber kids for the teams downfall.

Stop hiring your buddies and these home town heros!.
these coaches are only coaching at the level of thier experiences and your wondering why things are falling apart.
Zero ability to run a program
Zero ability to network and build athletes capable of competing in college.
No drive to improve themselves as coaches.
Add to this the lack of vision to build and develop the wrestling culture into something positive for thw community.
None of this is directed at anyone imperticular but watching the state of the sport be made softer by weaker competition, less than qualified coaches running perennial programs into the ground and the only focus are state titles all the while coaches jump from team to team because the talenthas ran out and they themselves cannot develop athletes!?!??.

Look all across the state and see whats happening, Sunnyside is not the first or the last...
Im not even curious on whats.hping to happen next.
Everyone will spend all their energy pointing fingers and placing blame instead of looking for a solution...
wrestling in the valley looks to have taken a turn for the worse...

look thr points are valid as you can tell by what is happening. That mindset of kids are built in clubs is a problem.
Clubs are great and have their place but if these kids and coaches can not organize themselves in a structured professional manner then what the point?.
College coaches can spot a uncomfortable athlete a mile away. This.is not a dig at anyone but facts are facts.
Attitude reflects leadership and it sounds like the lack of leadership is showing in these athletes unfortunately.
I wish Sunnyside the best, they were a great program. Coaches are not what they used to be and its definitely showing.

It’s the coaching 100%. All I hear is the practice is unorganized, alumni wrestlers come and never comeback. There’s a reason. Coaches are not supporting the kids and emotional part the way they should be. Communication is a lack thereof. They focus on the better kids and their needs then what the whole teams needs are. The parents need to rise up and not be silent. We need to see change.

You were not the only person who has been hearing bad things about this Coach and especially his wife who from the looks of it can’t keep it professional around children, especially with her potty mouth and bad talk about things she has no business and she obviously thinks she’s the president of Sunnyside and I bet that’s why a lot of children are also quitting because the program is a joke. I’m definitely writing complaints about this because he’s allowing his wife to say a lot of bad stuff I’ve been hearing she calls a lot of the kids names because they quit, but maybe they should look see and realize that it’s their own fault. They are all to blame by all I mean the head coach.

I can agree with everybody as saying Sunnyside is definitely on the downhill, but it’s not the kids. It’s definitely the program and most importantly, the coaching staff especially the head coach. I have always enjoyed going to matches, but it’s not the same anymore. The atmosphere isn’t the same I could see the way Coach is not doing his job and from what I hear going on inside the room it is remarkably terrible as a concern fan. I will put all the blame on that. There are many sources that are saying there is a lot of favoritism and bias going on inside that practice room along with no actual wrestling. Sunnyside wrestling is pretty much a track club from what I hear. It’s ridiculous and something needs to be done about this please if you can report and try to get us a new head coach so that I would enjoy coming to the matches again.

This is so sad to hear. Sunnyside has always been competitive and a force. For the last few years I recall this coming up on the message board, so it seems like it was bound to happen. Hopefully, they can correct it for the kids.

Great life lesson kids, when you have a boss down the road, a professor, that you deem as "not good" just quit work, quit school. Great lesson out of Sunnyside parents.

Why is walking away from a toxic situation where the issues are more than just whats happening in the wrestling room a bad thing?.
Any other sport the coaching is looked at and assessed on their ability to coach, not the athletes and if its a large group of kids leaving that should be a huge red flag for the school...
Its easier to blame the kids and parents, I can guarantee that this has been an issue for years, this doesn't just happen over night or in one season.

Well said but whats disappointing is that this will go over everyone's head, they will still place blame on the ones who left and the pattern will repeat itself.
Im curious on these self proclaimed great and experienced coaches who are there are doing about this.
If you see something, say something or your just as bad as the one doing wrong.
To me these coaches are all talk, no action.
if your going to talk you better back it up and since no one is that say two things.
1 they are afraid to lose their spot and turning a blind eye.
2 they are waiting to take the soon to be vacant coaching position like some scavengers.

this will get worse before it gets better unfortunately..

This program has never been about maintaining the tradition. It’s about being matside with your own kids. This has been the accusation for a few years and it makes sense now.

Big difference. Sunnyside has been a big successful program. Pasco has had good wrestlers. It’s a shame what has happened to that program in such a short time. I would hope they would evaluate their coaches and do what’s best for kids.

It was never the coaching Paulus was only good for basics haha. The reason why it’s dying out is there’s not much victory wrestlers in there anymore. Aside from the Villanuevas who also had their fair share at victory what Sunnyside wrestlers were actually good that weren’t from Victory?
