The real reason is this.

Every year, bar none, the Eastside of the State takes major issue that they only get to send 2-3 of their top wrestlers. They believe they have much stronger wrestling on that side, and because the seeding numbers are limited, e.g. Metro gets a 1 seed, Kingco gets a 1 seed etc etc etc, their wrestlers are forced to stay home simply because of numbers.


So finally, this gives more opportunity for kids in the strongest wrestling areas to go to State. I'm sure there will be more money made etc but this is the real reason.
