Thanks Tony and all As you say i think this is a diode problem, but customer was a bit confused as to why it was still charging, so had to give him an explanation that sounded as if i knew what i was talking about . I could not get onto the back of the alternator to check the terminal volages as its burried under pipes etc. Hes now having an exchange starter fitted Thanks Peter
