Ford Galaxy 1.9 TDi 1998 - Trouble fitting new timing belt Archived Message

Hi. We don't normally get involved with timing belts, but we got involved with a galaxy 1.9 tdi, 1998 R reg, it had got corrode wiring to the pump, which we have sorted, but it would not start, we have now traced it to the timing being out due to the tensioner breaking up, Our local Ford dealer has supplied a new belt, tensioner and roller, everything fits apart from the belt, If we wrap the Belt around the cam pulley, it goes about half way round and then climbs out, as though the teeth are too far apart, The dealers say that they have supplied the only belt that is listed for that vehicle (95 to 2000). I rang another garage, and they have had the same problem, and finished up getting a belt from an independent supplier, Oh and I have telephoned Ford technical, they say that they haven't come across a problem, but they can't check applications as they don't have parts catalogues in their department.( why are they called technical when they have never come across the problems before, can't check into the problems and haven't even got a ford parts cd to check ) Has any one seen this before, does anyone know the correct part no, etc. Thanks in advance. T.S. The engine code is A.F.N.
