Evening all, My tuppence worth. 15yrs ago or so when leaded petrol became phased out, I earned a pretty penny converting vehicles to run on un-leaded petrol by tweaking the timing etc. I kept an eye out for these additives and found that some used tin pellets (molecules) as a substitute for leaded petrol. I can definitely remember an article published somewhere which claimed that tin could not be scientifically substantiated as a substitute for lead. Fearing claims against me, I stopped selling the stuff. It is also interesting to note that the reason why leaded had to be added every 4th tankful on some vehicles was because the amount of lead contained in leaded petrol was 4 times the amount required for the majority of engines. Also, because of the cumulative effect of this "over-dosing" for many years, engines could run for a year or more on un-leaded fuel because of the coating that had built up on the valves. Finally, all the other products mentioned in this subject are all approved as substitutes for un-leaded petrol by an organisation which is called something along the lines of "British Historical Motor Vehicles" . I can obtain full details of this organisation if required. Regards Pete M
