But On top of the above posts, I think there are still lots of jobs out there that cannot be "diagnosed" even with the Best diagnostic tools available. i,e faults happening in instrument clusters such as The fuel gauge not working even though it wotks perfectly well using actuator tests. But at that point you need to try a replacement cluster to see if it cures the job and the Customers not happy because you cannot tell him that it will Definitely cure it. ( and a cluster costs £400 + and if you try a used one, it could log a higher mileage to the BSI etc ) There are lots more silly electronic type faults and interference related faults that are difficult or impossible to diagnose and require either product knowledge to know that its a known fault, or good guesswork and big balls to give you the confidence to carry on and buy the parts, knowing that if it doesn't cure it, you have wasted either the customers money or your own money. and even if it cures it the customer is still not happy as he thought it was going to cost £30 to fix it. I was going to type a nice long post but got interupted by someone off UKAT with a problem that sounds like an intereference related problem that he is having, and now i have to go to work. Tony.
