    Hi Paul. The only thing that I can see that could have been wrong in the fuse box, is a blown fuse or bad connection. ( That would be the under bonnet fuse box, not the one in the car ) I did a Polo yesterday with a blown fuse in a box on top of the battery. It was very easy to diagnose as it had 12v at the battery with the engine running an 19v at the alternator positive terminal. So it obviously had an open circuit between the two. You could have tested the warning light circuit as normal, by Disconnecting the plug and earthing the wire, I think the DFM terminal is connected to the rotor circuit and earths out through the ecu if it wants it to charge more.
