    I didnt have the oppertunity to test the other alternators. (Taxi driver! would rather spend a week faffing around with parts from dubious breakers that a bit of money on a "New" unit)

    The two pin socket (L and DFM) both have NBV.

    My gut says it is a faulty alternator. and I would normally just get another one. If it was an "Off the shelf" item my suppliers would do it on a "Sale or return" basis. But the track record (on admittedly s/h componants) is making me somewhat parranoid and it is a special order item and it is a rather expensive one at that!

    In the good old days I would ground the "Field" terminal (on the loom) to check the continuity of the ignition circuit and warning light. And supply in independent 12V supply to the alternator to see whether I can get it to "Fire up". I am not sure whether I can safely do either of these tests on this set up.
