Takhli RTAFB - Land of the King Cobra
Re: Attention all flightline workers 1972 -1973 474th TFW
firstname.lastname@example.org I worked at the ES-85 photo Lab we were maybe 30ft. From the Revetment wall. I got to Takhli late February, the F111 that crashed February 20,1973 was one of our's from Nellis AFB, I was sent there to replace an E-3 named Paul Saenz I am trying to contact anyone else that was TDY from Nellis and the 57th CES The base had been closed for 2 years before the first of our group got there and they had to clear the weeds from the hootch area I would stay in That hootch area they named snake city they had to kill over 40 cobra's in that area and spray it down for weeds
I was at Nellis in Phase Dock when they rushed me to Tahkli around Dec. 1, 72 to replace someone who had to leave. I was a nobody E-2 who was new the 474th OMS with it's jerk Lt. Col. whoosis. Nobody had time for a one striper. The jerk 1st sgt. Msgt whatsis at Nellis wrote me up as AWOL because the clerk who wrote the orders bugged out on leave and didn't tell anyone! I do have not had any issues other than hearing (damn Phantoms at Bentwaters)and crew chief knees. The problem with being TDY is that the VA does not see it on our DD214, so we were never there in their eyes. Of course all the jet fuel benzene, MEK, hydraulic fluid and other juicy carcinogens probably have not helped any of us. Lets not forget 0072 going kaboom 24 times. I know i am posting two years later. hopefully all are doing OK now.
