Charlie, I remember that night when the Pathet Thai were supposedly attacking the bomb dump. I had just arrived from stateside; McConnell to SF, SF to Anchorage on Pan Am charter, had engine trouble and sat on the ramp at night freezing to death in the plane which had no heat while they worked on the engine, took off and lost the engine over the Bering Sea, back to Ak, engine ordered, billeted in the Captain Cook Hotel in downtown Anchorage, next morning off to Yokota, then Clark, then Saigon, then Bangkok, loaded onto a Big Red for the 150 mile trip to Takhli. Got there just as the Bob Hope Christmas show was breaking up. He and his entourage did stop and speak to us and crack a couple of jokes to our sorry asses on their way to the "O" club. That night was the night the dump was supposedly attacked, and I was so tired I slept through the entire thing while every swinging d--k was running around with M-16's. Fun times!
