One of the items in today's email was an announcement about an addition of 20 songs to the already extensive "California Soundtrack" that writer Soumya Karlamangla has been developing over several years.
It's not a bad list, but from experience with the writer's daily work and the NYT's posture toward my state, I wasn't expecting very much to start with.
Imagine my shock then when I reached the group of songs starting with C and found Stewart's "California Bloodlines" on the list, a song more than fifty years old from an artist that the general public knew only briefly in 1980 or so when "Gold" became a hit.
Stewart appears twice more on the list, but when I got to the Is and did not find "I'm Going Home" there I despaired of seeing the Trio appear. I'm delighted to say I was wrong - because when the list reached the S section, there was "South Coast."
There are several reason why IGH would have been a better choice, but I'll go into that in a reply to this post. For now, here's the list with KT/JS songs highlighted:
