Re: Four Strong Winds
definitely one of my handful of favorite songs of all time - my favorite is the Mitchell Trio version
First - I hope everybody out there is doing okay and you continue to be well and safe.
Second - Kudos to Terry Collins !!! He's right. (see "best song" thread below)
The song "Four Strong Winds" is considered to be Canada's #1 song of all-time !!!
Third - Ian Tyson wrote this song after being inspired by...guess who?...Bob Dylan.
Greenwich Village (1960)
Ian & Sylvia headed down to New York (by car) and when they arrived at Greenwich Village,
they were pretty much welcomed into the American "folk" scene.
Mary Travers (of Peter, Paul & Mary) even greeted Sylvia by saying....
"Why did you have to be so damn gorgeous ???" (hahaha)
I think part of our appeal was the fact Sylvia and I were Canadian.
One thing sticks in my mind about being there.
There was this scraggly looking guy bumming off cigarettes from everyone.
Later, we see him at this coffee house singing:"Blowin' In The Wind".
I whispered to Sylvia: "If this Dylan character could write songs, anybody can" !!!
About half-an-hour later I went back to Albert Grossman's apartment (our manager),
and in about 20 minutes, wrote: "Four Strong Winds".
>> CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corp)
"All those things that don't change come what may." - Ian & Sylvia
BEST REGARDS / BE WELL / STAY SAFE OUT THERE
