DARK HORSES

Who are some lower-ranked kids that are flying under the radar that are going to be some disruptors in the next few weeks? (Name, weight, class)

That 4A 150lbs group is stacked at the top, but I think Gavin Wells could do some damage. Kid is a pitbull. If he chooses an intelligent aggressive approach he could give anyone at the top a real problem.

3a 144 patrick halpin. it seems as if their isnt a lot of skill difference in that bracket. kid can get it done

Do you have to make post season weight once during season to wrestle it in post season? Or can you wait to drop and districts?

My understanding is that you can wait until districts to wrestle your post season weight class. Some weight decent plans don't even allow a wrestle at that wight class until the very last day. There used to be the rule that you had to make weight in your class 50% of the time. That changed when then went to certification of body weight and a decent plan that dictates when you can finally wrestle at certain weights. From a health standpoint, I think the certification and decent plan is healthier for the kids than the old way.

We need to make a rule like Idaho where you have to make scratch weight a certain amount of times in order to be able to drop for post season. I think it's 4 or 5 in Idaho. Here, kids never even have to make 106. They can certify with a descent plan weighing 113 or whatever, then wrestle 113 all year. Then they can go to 108 for districts. That's really stupid. It's supposed to be a growth allowance, not a cutting allowance.

Definitely not a bad idea. I assume you are a parent who has a solid kid that doesn't do this, but has great kids do a massive drop.

I know my kid wrestled at 126 all year and dropped to 120 at the end, but he was a small 126, even smaller when they gave the 2 lbs after Jan.

Serious wrestlers will cut 10-15lbs or more at 165+.

My kid wrestled one weight all season, post season. I also think you should have to make scratch weight at least twice before post season.

If they can make the weight, what’s the big deal? I wrestled kids up all the time because they were the best 113 for example, or 120 but were actually certified for w right below. It helped the team fill weights. Why should they have to wrestle lower? So a smaller kid that weighs 104 wrestles 113? What good would that do?

I know for a fact that some of the more serious schools fudge the descent plans by bringing in people they know for certifications. Must be nice.

Last night Louden was running downtown Spokane cutting weight before work. Kid is on a vision quest.
He was over heard saying this is the year I make my mark.

Don't let any of the officials know. But I believe when I saw him running downtown through Spokane he was wearing plastic sweats. He seems to be trying to drop a lot of water weight.
His coach should probably do something about it. He could end up getting some really bad nose bleeds do to what he is trying to do.

Them boys been sharpenin’ their 9 moves and splittin’ logs all year for this. Ain’t a soul in 2A tough enough to handle what’s headin’ their way. State? Yippie-ki-yay, we run this state.

They call ‘us dark horses—ha, well Hee Haa! That’s just city folk talk for “You ain't ready.” But when the dust settles, it’s gonna be all Loggers, all day. You can bet your last buffalo nickel on that.

And somebody better fix them pound-for-pound rankings before we do it for ‘em—‘cause when them boys stack up them wins, they’ll make rootin' tootin' sure y’all remember it.

How’s that feel? We do what we want, and coach, if you go to shake them boys hands and they don't wanna, and they look at you and say "fritters", well thats just fine because them boys are good!

He was injured most of the season so thats why most people forgot about him and he is not on the rankings but Gavin Carnahan from Deer Park will make a run.
