That attitude right there is a big part of the reason why kids feel entitled to everything without earning it. Kids learn everything from somewhere. If a coach turns the other way and allows a 7th match, which "no one cares about," it sends the message that you can do whatever you like if nobody catches you. Rules need to be followed by everyone so there is a level playing field when it comes to things you can control. If you are continually letting things slide, your athlete will continue to cut corners. It also negates a lot of the good lesson the coach may actually be teaching and the coach looses validity. Dumb or not, rules aren't meant to be broken.
