Hyundai Tucson 2.0 CRDi 2005 - Engine misfire - Fixed #

Year of Manufacture *: 2005
( Optional ) Engine Code or CC: 2.0 crdi

Has anyone seen this intermittent fault before. Start Vehicle, runs ok, rev it up to 1500rpm and it misfires,off a cyl. Back down to idle and the misfire is now there all the time. Switch off and restart and it idles ok, once again increase the revs to around 1500rpm and it goes down on a cyl again.I have scoped all the injectors looks ok, checked crank sensor and cam sensor seem ok. I don't
know if there is a issue with hydraulic valve lifters or not?. Has anyone come accross this before. There are no DTC present.

That does not add up to me, code reader used (snappy?) have you tried another code reader ?

Hi Kevin, The code reader I have used is Maxidas 708. The engine management light is present and goes out when the engine is started and does not come on when the fault develops.

OK i would still try another code reader OR disconnect an injector or some thing and see if codes are being set.

An control unit that does not see a misfire is pretty lacking.

Has this had the DPF removed and the ECU re-written ?

We had a Nissan Almera last week with Airbag light on, no codes using Maxidas 708. Put on Carman and DS105 which showed the fault code.

I cant get correction values on this model with the Maxidas which is annoying, but it is strange that no engine management light is not coming on.I did a injector leakage test and found one injector to be excessive so I changed the injector but it was the same as before.

Kevin, The car is completely original nothing missing or added, 100k on the clock. I cant help thinking it a mechanical fault rather than electrical and the only think that would be variable would be a faulty hydraulic lifter rising and falling with oil pressure. Before I start removing injectors and rocker cover does any one know if they are hyd or manual tappeds.

I would disconnect something to get a fault code and the MIL on first, so you know the ECU is seeing faults.

A solid misfire should show a code how-ever it is coursed.

As for the tappet,s, what does you tech. info (AD, Auto-vista, tolerance etc.) system tell you.

Kevin, Disconnected number one injector and started engine, got a fault code P0263.Cyl 1 inj cir balance with MIL on. Cleared code and re started idle ok until revs increase to around 1200rpm and misfire returns no MIL present no codes present.Autodata has hydraulic tappeds should have looked before posting.

If they use conventional solenoid injectors I think its ok to disconnect an injector with the engine running, so I would've thought you could narrow it down to a specific cylinder.

So at least then you can have some direction in what to start looking at such ss tappets or an injector issue.

Just a thought but does this have a dmf? I presume so.

I'm just thinking of the Fords when the dmf is failing, you would swear there was a misfire.

How does it drive?

Jim, I cant be sure about the flywheel, solid or dual,I have scoped the crank shaft sensor and camshaft sensor and they both look to be aligned and there are no noises from the flywheel area.When driving it loses power under load. In answer to Lee`s question I was wary about unplugging an injector while the engine was running. But thats something I will try first thing tomorrow.
I did unplug the camshaft sensor while the engine was running and nothing happened?.Engine ran as normal no MIL.

Only unplug the injectors if you are certain they are not piezo as you will/may have a problem as they can stay open

I can't remember the exact reason but they require a current to open and close so unplugging a piezo type with the engine running is disasterous from what I have read.

I don't know if you can tell by looking to determine which type it has but I think scopung them (current) will identify which ones are fitted. Do a search to see the difference in appearance of a waveform if you aren't certain.

So pkease don't just do as I suggested without finding which injector is used.

Thank you for your concern Lee, I will be careful and identify them before hand. I will sleep on it and maybe with a fresh start tomorrow I can think of a new approach to this.

FIXED AND GONE.
Removed the 4 injectors and sent them off to Merlin.
They tested and reported One injector faulty at mid range, got them back last week and engine runs fine.
Thank to everyone for the help.
