Citroen Saxo 2002 - Airbag light on - Fixed #

Year of Manufacture *: 2002

Hi

Got this one in with airbag light on, it had the airbag deployed in steering wheel, I fitted secondhand airbag and light still on.

Fault code description drivers pretension squib.
What is this?

This may sound daft but depending on what scanner is used they some times get the description incorrect caused by LHD or RHD setup.

It may actually mean passenger airbag squip if its got one.

This caught me out a few years back with a seat belt pre-tensioner.

If the Airbag has been deployed, the pre tensioner will probably have been deployed as well.

Check the pre-tensioners, as Lee says set a fault for the passenger side to confirm description.

Hi,
I checked seatbelt receiver and it hasn't got pretensioner. Would there be one on seatbelt reel?
Would clock spring need replacing if air bag gone off?
No passenger airbag.

Hi Shane,

If you are not getting any drivers squib faults your clock spring is working ( did you have a fault for drivers squib before you replaced the airbag ? )

Pre tensioners are often fitted to the reel assemblies.

Checked car and its the pretensioner on the reel.
Ordered second hand one cheers for help.

What are the insurance implications of fitting 2nd hand airbag components? How do you feel about fitting 2nd hand airbag components that you can not test, and you have no idea as to their age, or more importantly the history of the part?
How would you feel if worse came to worse and the components did not work as they should have?
I know what I would feel like.
Even if the customer insists on 2nd hand parts, I couldnt and wouldnt do it.
Explain the situation, that these parts are un testsd with no guarantee they would work and if he still wants them fitted then tell him to find somone else to fit them!

I can see your point but in all fairness there isn't any guarantee
that any airbag will be depliyed in an accident and I have seen plenty of damaged cars where this has been the case.

if for example you fitted an airbag squib from a 2010 transit into a 2006 transit, what is wrong with that as I believe there is potentially more chance of the 2006 srs system airbags being faulty rather than a 2010 model.

Do parts stock airbags or are they specially made to order which I doubt. How long would an airbag sit on a shelf in a warehouse before its ordered in from a main dealer parts department.

I think there are lots of unknowns with srs parts and what we should and shouldn't do.

Is it any different to fitting part worn tyres or having the srs controln unit crash data reset.

Hi,
Isn't a secondhand unit that may work better then an airbag that has gone off over 1 year ago. Which the customer has been driving!

Unfortunately, none of your s/hand arguments would stand a chance in court and that is where you would have the chance to explain them should that car be involved in a crash which causes injury and srs system fails to work correctly.
I know new systems fail regularly to deploy properly, but that is not your problem, the above would be.

Hi,
Fitted secondhand airbag, s/h n/s and o/s pretensioners and secondhand module ( would not reset).
I no secondhand isn't good but on a car worth £500 and customer with no money what can you do?

Decline the "repair" and remove your neck from a possible noose ?

Customers are your best mate all the time it's going their way, but don't forget that they can (and do) turn and bite you faster than a python.

Will your liability insurance cover you for fitting this type of second hand component?

Thanks Mark I thought it was just me!
Shane and Lee, All we can do is our best, is our best to fit 2nd hand parts?
It may be true that the new part you are fitting will not be any good, but if you have fitted it correctly and complied with manufacturers instructions, then if it did fail you can have done no more.
