Nissan Navara pickup 2002 2500cc diesel - Spotlight wiring, come on when engine running Archived Message

Could anybody tell me whether there is any way of stopping the spotlights coming on when the engine is running with the sidelights on.
I recently fitted the spotlights (which were supplied by the customer)using a relay switched from the main beam wire at the back of the bulb connector.
When the vehicle is running with the sidelights on the main beam is supplied with a low current providing dimmed headlights & also causing the relay to switch
Does any body know whether there is a wiring kit for fitting spotlights to the Navara or whether there is some sort of current controlled relay instead of using a normal relay or do i need to take the switch input from before the light control unit.
Sorry for the long post & for asking what a lot of you will think is a dumb question,
    Regards , Andrew
