    Hi Stu,
    In answer to your question above, the two gears on the end of the crank use a little 'V' system to align the two exactly in-line, From memory I also think they sometimes use a Dowel system as well, But I have seen these slip due to the hard impact caused by the belt snapping and sometimes it can be hard to see in situ! They also have a ridiculous torque setting for the centre bolt as well to ensure they never drift!
