    hi damian

    these pumps need to be set correctly with a dti as per autodata, otherwise they are difficult/impossible to start. ideally they should then be dynamically set by vw for perfect running, but dti setting is good enough for all but the fussiest of people. also air locks can occur within the pump which prevent starting, vacuum bleeding the pump is the best way to erradicate them. it can also be possible that the pump is 180 degrees out compared to the cam as the slot in the cam for alignment can be easily misjudged!
