The belt checks out OK. I have also checked the genuine ford part and it is identical. I have also discovered that the engine had some serious repair some 30,000Mls ago, broken cam etc due to belt failure. A new head was fitted, I contacted the local repairer who did the job...guess what???? he tells me he had the same trouble tensioning the belt.... so he fitted a THICKER one, a genuine from ford. he gave me the ford part no. it had been superseeded but turns out to be a belt listed for an escort, same amount of teeth, same length but DOESN'T seem thicker. This is all starting to seem a bit suspect!!!!! and i am getting fed up... or is it thicker. Thanx for your suggestions so far...the story continues. Dave.
