    Hi Mark. I have just thought of the other senario, and looking at the voltmeter readings with the engine off and cranking, it could be that the voltage is high because it's been overcharging, but more likely the one that a few have been caught out with before. :- The battery is going flat in your voltmeter and causing it to read higher than normall, so check your meter on some other cars and replace the battery.
