    Hi All,

Ok this one is driving me nuts.

Originally came in with the customer complaining of the lights going dim and the wipers slowing.
Battery and alternator checked out and all oK.

It returns a few weeks later with the same fault. This time Alternator is putting out 17+ volts and the battery is scrap. So on with a new alternator and battery. All fine - sorted. Job in profit at this point.

Car returns again with same fault. Everything checks out OK. I can't replicate the fault no matter how hard I try. Conclude that it must be the alternator intermitantly packing up when hot and under a heavy load. Relace Alternator, and for good measure replace warning light bulb. Profit jogging off down the road.

    Alas it's back again.

    NBV is 12.94
    Min cranking is 11v
    Idle output is 15.8v
Idle output (full load) is 15.7
    No blown fuses.
    No melted wireing.

I'm begining to go crazy now.At the moment I'm thinking that there must be an intermitant short somewhere that's running the alternator at max, and this is damaging the regulator pack?

I'm going to remove the output wire next and run my own straight to the battery.Hopefully this will eliminate any fault in that area.

    Any suggestions welcome

    Profit now over horizon.

    Take care

    Mark
