peter i was referring to a low current probe with narrow jaws and i am aware that it is the magnetic field we measure when using a probe . maybe you could do an exercise sometime and then explain to me why a very small current wont show up on the main battery cable but will show up when a smaller jumper cable is used . i would have thought a thicker insulator would weaken the magnetic field . nigel
