We have one of these, same year same engine, as a hire vehicle. This weekend it was towed back by the rac with a suspected coil pack failure. It started and ran with a misfire, but with a metallic knock...

We decided to check the valve timing first, on removal of the rocker cover we found the exhaust cam broken on no. 4 cylinder, also sprocket on inlet cam was not very tight (in fact it was quite loose).

We have removed the cylinder head but visually there aren't any bent valves, it is going for test tomorrow.

We are trying to reconstruct the chain of events, so this doesn't happen again.... did the chain jump first causing contact? or did the camshaft break first? all the camshaft caps are ok, unlike renaults when the belt goes....

could we have got away with just a camshaft, without removing the head? we will probably never know, we are going to rebuild it with 2 new camshafts, and new chain and tensioners etc.

I would be interested to hear if anyone else has had similar problems..,.
    Thanks Nigel
