    From memory the EWS is one of the units behind the glovebox (quite a long unit and it is marked). It inhibits cranking and enables the DME (Digital Motor Electronics). I had one recently where water ingress had caused damage allowing the engine to run but inhibiting cranking, if cranked directly it would run happily enough. Washed EWS in warm soapy water, dried thoroughly with airline and off she went.
    Strange really, the damage is caused by water and washed off by water. A good squirt of washing up liquid and a clean paintbrush will take off a remarkable amount of corrosion damage on PCB's (can't replace corroded through pins and tracks though).
