    Nissan Micra K12 2004 - Replaced second hand steering column, now non start # Archived Message

    We have this Micra in that another garage replaced the Steering column motor/control unit with a second hand unit. The Vehicle will now not start, The Dealers told him that it needed initialising, ( CAN ALIGNMENT )

    I Managed to get the 12 digit code and attempted to initialise the system which seems to be the same procedure as programming the keys.

    When trying to initialise, the Screen on the Consult just flashes back and forth from WAIT to the Initialise page.

    I would think that is Either due to having a wrong code or because the system knows that theres a foreign body in the system. ??

    I have Tried entering the wrong access code and Excactly the same thing happens, So it appears that the system cannot Report that a wrong code is being used. ??? ( Tech at Dealers said that it doesn't tell you if your using the wrong code, ?? It just doesn't work )

    I have been reading up on the system tonight and Nissan do say that if any component is replaced,
    { BCM, inteligent key unit, ECM IPDM, Cluster, EPS }
    They must be replaced with New "Virgin" parts otherwise the Electrics may not Operate correctly. ??

    So Has anyone been there before. ?? Has anyone fitted a new or used column to one of these and did it need initialising.

    The last message that i managed to get from a Dealer Tech was that they do not need initialising, They just remove the battery, Replace the column and reconnect the battery and they self learn. ??

    If this is True that they self learn and cannot be matched by Diagnostic equipment, then that will be why the items have to be "Virgin". ???

    Any Idea's. ?? Thanks Tony.
