Well...here we go. I left it in the workshop overnight after running it up hot. In the morning the coolant level had dropped and took another 3.5l. We ran it up hot and got some heat through the vents so I parked it up on a slope, facing uphill, and left the engine to go cold. I topped the coolant up again (0.5l) and ran the engine up again. Loads of heat through the vents! I had already explained the train of events to the customer so I let him pay for what I had already done and take his motor away with the advice to keep a very close eye on the temp and water level. That was a few days ago so fingers crossed. Looks like it was just a good old fashioned air lock! Thanks for your input guys. As always, very much appreciated.
