If the BCM is in a immobilised state (locked) then it will not allow any serial communications.
You have to successfully enter the EKA code the BCM will then be unlocked and will now talk to T4.
On a Disco II of this vintage I would have close look in the roof lining area in front of the rear sunroof. The receiver unit for the Remote key is there , suspect it may be a little wet.
