I decided to wait until the end of the day yesterday to dedicate some good diagnostics time to this one.
I know that the regs are good on this. The customer bought the car with this known fault. Fortunately as part of the original owners attempt at getting it repaired he purchased two used, known working spare regs!!!
I reconnected all the can lines and scoped them. Central locking can data good whilst pressing the lock switch. Windows operational for around 20 minutes then lock out. Reset the regs to get windows working but this time whilst scoping can lines for lock data, I reconnected the comfort module. Ahhhh, CAN high baseline now pulls down, although data is present, when pressing lock switch. I concluded that the comfort module pulling the line down! The regs don't like this and stop the windows working.
I then scoped the data link line to the comfort module as I have not been able to scan it. Scan tool sending data to the pin, but no response. Pulled out the diagrams to see if the module was missing anything. Bingo...pin 5B is missing a +12V!!!! When I say missing, the wire and contact isn't fitted! Applied power to the pin and up came the CAN high line, communication restored to comfort module and the windows now working correctly. Fortunately I had the proper contact as I had previously repaired speed sensor housing and wiring I am now down to getting the mirrors to work so will spend some time today sorting that out.
I have no idea why the line is missing, but needless to say I am pleased it is up and running for now. However, when pulling the kick panel away, I found cut off connector laying there which happens to fit a single connector comfort module???!!
I will post all the fixes once I have found the problems.
As you say Shane...normally just a case of changing the regs...just wish this was as straight forward as that
