A good old example of that were the '98 onwards Mondeos that had issues with c.v boot clips expanding, allowing water to enter the outer c.v joint. In service the dealers were paid to replace the gaiter clips. How many Mondeo driveshafts or outer c.v joints have you replaced? (These were mostly the ones not serviced by the dealer (or lazy dealers that didn't do them).
A current Kia campaign is Sorento up to 2010 rear Axle upper mounting brackets which retain water inside the upper axle bracket. This causes excess corrosion to weaken the bracket. Kia pay for an inspection, if the corrosion is minor, drill drain holes strip back any surface corrosion, zinc prime and paint the rear axle (0.7hrs on top of a service or repair). If excessive, new axle.
