This is a general enquiry to see if anyone as had problems with this model whereby when vehicle was parked up for over a week during a period of heavy rain, water migrated into the airbox via the plastic duct which takes air in at the top of the front grille.
It took sometime to get a description of sequence of events but as far as i can gather this is it,when owner came to car after period above. The engine didn't turn over so a recovery operator was called and proceeded to connect a jump pack with same outcome this is where story became unsure but as far as possible he came to conclusion that starter motor was "jammed" and tow started with difficulty.
it was then brought to us running albeit lumpy, and smoking when cold.my colleague at this stage removed the airbox which still had water in it and concluded it had hydrauliced when first turned over.the owner wanted to drive to wales in car which we didn't recommend but he did any way without any further damage or symptoms and doesn't seem to be to concerned.
we convinced him to allow us to carry out some preliminary checks to confirm our suspicions without major strip downs, this when i got involved and have done the following so far 1 remove fuel injectors and have tested these are ok, at same time insert probe into cyl bores onto top of pistons 1and 4 also 2 and3 these are equal so don't think any bent con rods 2 refit injectors and remove glow plugs carry out compression pressure tests as follows
no1cyl 20bar
no2cyl 26bar
no3cyl 28bar
no4cyl 20bar
these seem to confirm to me a compression problem but owner doesnt seem to be as concerned as me he says once engine warms up smoke dies away and performance ok.bottom line as often in this game it boils down to who pays for further diagnosis.
sorry for long post but but welcome any input.
geoff taylor.
