Found the fault with this car.
I think the thing that threw me was no comms with the DSC system.
The O/S boot helper spring had ripped its mounting off inside the boot and its lethal jagged edge had proceeded to knaw through the wiring , cutting through and shorting wires every time the boot was opened and closed.
If you look at the last pic closely you'll see the broken/stripped wiring on the harness going into the fusebox and the repeated rubbing of the main battery cable
This was all going on behind the trim panel, a fire waiting to start!
All wiring checked and repaired/reinsulated , fuses replaced, codes cleared and luckily no other electrical damage so all systems go again. The O/S helper spring has been removed until its been decided if and how to repair.
With hindsight the boot not staying open on its own should have been a clue, but the car was a bit of a dog and I thought that it was just another thing broken on this car!
I'm not too impressed with the build quality of the E60 from the ones I've seen so far.
Has anyone else seen this on these?
Cheers
Colin.
