This car has come in for a service, and also a 'quick' look at the reason why 'oil sensor garage' is appearing on the display when starting.

I have scanned with VCDS and the code was;

P0196 - Oil temp/level sensor implausible signal.

I looked at meas. blocks for oil level, and it was showing 0.00mm.

I happened to have a sensor on the shelf, so popped it in to no avail.
Have visually inspected condition of wires back to the last plug near battery, before it disappears into the main loom, and the wires all look very good, no abrasion etc.

I must add that the customer is very prohibitive of me spending time on this fault, as usual, so I am not necessarily asking for a fix/silver bullet, but more if anyone else has had the same experience/problem, purely for my own benefit, rather than the fix of this car.

If someone does know the reason behind my fault, I would rather be led to the answer, rather than being told outright.!
