Hi David, I agree with Dave, the needle lift sensor is the feedback sensor for the closed loop timing control and without the feedback system working the system will run in a failsafe LOS mode.

You can test the sensor with either a DMM in a static condition or with a scope in a dynamic condition.But I don't think it is your only problem.
